初めて数学を教えた高校2年生の秋 ～あのとき告白しなければ～
僕の記憶によると、昨日7月21日は、高校時代に好きだった人の誕生日でした。今日はその人との思い出について書きたいと思います。僕が高校2年生のとき、放課後友達と教室で話をしていると、一人の女子が「ちょっと数学を教えてほしいんですけど…」と話しかけてきました。
僕の友達は、数学が苦手だったので、とりあえずその場では僕が教えることになりました。季節は秋で、「微分法」を教えてほしいということでした。
30分くらい教えて、その日はそこで解散しました。
その日から、僕はその女子に週に4回ほど、放課後数学を教えることになりました。教室で教えることが多かったです。
その人は僕と同じく、教育学部に行きたい、と言っていました。「俺は中学校の英語の先生になりたいんよね」と言うと、彼女は「私は小学校の先生になりたい。自分が受け持ったクラスの子供たちといっしょに勉強できるから。中学校だと教科担任になってしまうから、自分のクラスの子たちと長い間勉強できんから、小学校の方がいいなぁ」と言いました。 その一言がきっかけで「俺も小学校の教師を目指そう！」ということになりました（単純ですね）
彼女の第1志望校は富山大学。僕の第１位志望校は新潟大学、第2志望校は富山大学でした。「この人といっしょに富山大学行けたらいいなぁ」とおぼろげに思いながら彼女に数学を教えていました。
今振り返るとこの高校2年生の秋の日々が初めて人にものを教える、という経験でした。彼女は数学が赤点ぎりぎりでスランプに陥っていましたが、僕といっしょに数学を勉強して、2学期の期末テストは60点くらいにまで点数が伸びました。
うれしかったです。
冬休みになると、彼女と友達数人でカラオケに行くようになりました。彼女は松田聖子の歌が好きで、よく松田聖子の歌を歌っていました。ボーリングにも行ったりしていました。
彼女といっしょに数学を勉強する日々が2年生の春休みまで続きました。もうすぐ3年生、受験生になるというときに、僕は彼女に思い切って告白しました。
すると、とても気まずい雰囲気になってしまい、僕はフラれました。今振り返れば何で告白してしまったのだろう？と思うのですが、若気の至りってやつで、日に日に募っていく彼女への思いを抑えることができませんでした。
結局、その告白をさかいに、彼女と勉強することはなくなってしまいました。富山市立図書館で毎週日曜日に僕は友達と二人で勉強していましたが、彼女も一人で図書館に勉強しに来ていました。
「あぁ、頑張っとるなぁ。数学教えたいなぁ」と思いながら結局3年生の1月になるまで、彼女と話すことはありませんでした。とても辛く苦しい日々でした。
1月のセンター試験が終わってから、ようやく彼女と普通に話すことができるようになりました。彼女は富山大学と新潟大学の教育学部を受験、僕も新潟大学と富山大学を受験しました。
「もしも同じ大学に行けたらいいなぁ。」と未練がましく思っていましたが、僕のはかない夢はかないませんでした。
僕は新潟大学へ、彼女は別の大学に通うことになり、僕の高校時代は終わりを告げました。あの高校2年生の終わりに告白しなければ、どうなっていただろう…と今もたまに思うことがあります。
そんな彼女ももう50歳。結婚して3人の子供たちとだんなさんと幸せな日々を県外で暮らしています。
恋愛は本当に難しいですね。
